Getting Through: The Youth Resiliency Project
Organization/Department:
Parsons School of Design. Independent Research Studio Class.
Goal of Project:
To understand “How might we build resiliency characteristics within children and teens so they can properly handle adverse life events?”
Role in Project:
Designer
Thinking Process:
Surveyed parents and non-parents of all age groups. Conducted interviews with psychologists, a wellness coach, a caretaker, a teacher, a wellness space architect, the Program Officer in Early Childhood at the Robin Hood Foundation, and teens. Did substantial desktop research on the topic.
Results:
After synthesizing all of the research I gathered, I learned that to help children and teens develop resiliency characteristics they must be in a community that is safe, has structure, a leader they can model, enables open communication and gives them freedom.
The results in this project led me to the development of my second studio project which also consists of building a community specifically for Gen Z.
